Nominations
Nominations open mid-December. Leading up to nominations, each SIG Elections Chair will have to provide the following deliverables:
November 1: Name of SIG Elections Officer (for qualifications, see
below)
November 15: Listing of positions up for election this year
November 15: Descriptions for each open position
November 15: Guiding questions for each open position
Elected Positions

Each Division SIG is required to keep at least 3 elected officers to be considered a functioning group. These required positions are President/Chair, Vice President/Vice Chair or President-Elect/Chair-Elect, and Communications Officer.
There are several optional elected positions that growing SIGs might choose to hold elections for, including:
Secretary
Treasurer
Business Officer
Member At-Large
Grade level/Special interest Representative
Appointed Positions
A SIG might also choose to appoint several positions to address different needs within the Officer group. Appointed positions can be additional officers or can be special titles held by elected Officers (for example, the Communications Chair might also be appointed the Professional Development Committee Chair). Examples of appointed positions:
Awards Chair
Journal Editor
Professional Development Chair
Sample Nomination Form
This is what your nominees will need to fill out during the nomination process. They won't be able to go back in and edit, so please advise your members to have all their information on hand (Resume/CV, Answers to Guiding Questions, and contact info)

Sample Guiding Questions
Nominees answer several questions to give voters a better idea of their qualifications and vision for the SIG. Here are some generic questions that have been used in the past. SIGs can modify the below questions or provide their own Guiding Questions based on their own SIG needs.
- What skills, level of involvement with ISTE and/or SIGXX, and experiences in the area of [SIG topic] qualify you to serve as a SIGXX officer? (limit 250 words)
- Identify the three most salient issues in [SIG topic] and discuss how you think they affect K–12 education and the educational community. (limit 250 words)
- As a SIGXX officer, what will you do to improve the SIG? (limit 250 words)
- What are the strengths you would bring to the leadership of SIGXX?
Elections Chair
Each SIG must appoint an Elections Chair position -- this can be any officer in the SIG who is not up for re-election. The Elections Chair will be the point person within the SIG for Elections-related information.
Elections
Nominations open mid-December and close mid-January. Elections are held each year from mid-March to mid-April. Officers elected in April will assume their positions at NECC that year. Newly elected officers are not required to attend NECC, although it is highly encouraged.
ISTE coordinates the SIG elections. Each nominee must provide us with
- a CV/Resume
- a short bio
- answers to guiding questions
- a small photo
Succession Planning
Many future SIG Officers first get involved with their SIGs at NECC. It's a great way to connect face-to-face and talk about mutual interests and volunteer opportunities. Many SIGs use their Annual Meetings at NECC to recruit. A great way to get members involved is to assign a project during NECC. You can gauge interest and collaborative skills by involving members in a small project at first, and then building relationships.
